simply better ways to negotiate and resolve conflict

Conflict zen for mediators at the Rocky Mountain Retreat

I’ll be speaking in July at the wonderful Rocky Mountain Retreat, July 28 – August 1 at the St. Malo Retreat Center in Allenspark, Colorado. Here’s what I’ve got on tap:

Conflict Zen: Powerful Habits of Mind for Keeping Your Balance During Your Own and Others’ Conflict

Session Description

Conflict interveners do not check our “conflict selves” at the door—every interaction with our clients is influenced by our beliefs about conflict and the habits of mind that shape our words and action.

This workshop invites conflict resolution professionals to explore your own “conflict self” in a judgment-free zone, celebrate the ways that self enhances your work and life, and identify and adopt new habits to replace those that serve you less well. You will learn simple yet powerful habits of mind for keeping your balance in difficult moments, how to alter unhelpful narratives that influence your reactions during conflict, and understand more deeply your own relationship with conflict.

Session Objectives

  1. Invite participants to explore their own “conflict selves” and the way those selves influence their work as interveners.
  2. Uncover below-the-radar intentions and habits of mind that are informing participants’ word and action in their conflict work.
  3. Help participants identify their own optimal approach for retaining a balanced and centered state during their own and others’ conflict.

I’m delighted to be included and very excited to hear keynote Marc Lesser, Zen master, speak on “Sustainability: The Zen of Mediation.” Registration for the retreat is now open.
