Sometimes you know instantly that the person you’re talking to has her act seriously together.
That’s what happened to me when I phoned Carol Roth to invite her to speak at the upcoming Mediation Business Summit. Influential blogger Liz Strauss, another featured speaker at the Summit, had recommended Carol to us and within one minute on the phone, I knew Liz had pulled off her amazing connector magic yet again.
In this first post in a series of Mediation Business Summit speaker profiles Amanda and I will be blogging over the course of the summer, I want to tell you a bit about Carol to whet your appetite for the Summit, encourage you to register if you haven’t already, and, if you have registered, give you a preview of the kind of smart, leading edge business savvy you’re going to experience.
Carol Roth is a business advisor for companies ranging from solopreneurs to Fortune 500. She calls her brand of fresh, no-holds-barred, tough-love advisory style the “Spinach in Your Teeth®” approach, warning business owners to never trust anyone who won’t tell them that they have spinach stuck in their teeth. A Wharton School grad with an early career in investment banking and a track record of helping clients raise more than $1 billion in capital, Carol knows business, large and small. Her book, The Entrepreneur Equation, is due out early next year.
But she’s got more than just the right credentials. I find Carol smart and sassy, professional and powerful, funny and quirky. She really groks the kind of love for ADR that launches so many practitioners into a career in this field, and she also knows the blinders such passion can cause. She wants us to take off the blinders, look clearly ahead, and positions ourselves to build business successfully. As Carol likes to say, the question isn’t, “Can I be an entrepreneur?” it’s “Should I be an entrepreneur?” At the Summit, she’ll help you answer that question for yourself.
Here’s a 5-minute glimpse of Carol during an interview on Chicago television station WGN:

Carol will continue her myth-busting at the Summit and show you what’s required to run your own successful private practice; how to professionalize your mediation business to help protect you from liability, attract more clients and create more efficiency in your work; and how to maximize your overall efforts (and profits!).
What?!? You’re not registered yet for the Mediation Business Summit, the only ADR business and career event in the world that you can attend from the comfort of your own home or office?. There’s a remedy for that, you know: Learn more and register now.
Oh, one more thing. You know how I harp on the importance of really knowing your target market? Carol says this too, and in a very funny way. Here’s a classified ad from her blog – they sure are clear about their target customer!
See you at the Summit.
